I expected this to be a slowburn, slightly spooky, cosy mystery and honestly pretty light reading so my expectations weren't super high but it's so incredibly slow and boring I just can't stomach it to the end. It literally feels like you're stuck in quicksand and the story will never move on. As in halfway through the book it hasn't even been two full days since the story began! And that's not the only problem. The mc quickly began annoying me because her actions and motivations are contrived and implausible. And omg if have to hear the phrase "I don't want charity" one more time I will commit violence! An honorable mention for the wannabe "quirky girl" best friend side character that will grate your nerves every time she opens her stupid mouth. The rest of the tiny cast of characters consists of undeveloped stereotype cardboard cutouts. I'm not even sure I like the cat and that's saying something. The mystery elements are presented badly and fail to entice. Do not recommend 👎
